Hello World!
I'm Josh Villanueva.
What's up? I'm a software engineer at Target and a University of Wisconsin - Madison alumni. I'm interested in exploring and learning all areas of computer science, including frontend development, backend development, software engineering, and information technology and development areas.
Projects
The Recipe Compiler
The recipe compiler is a web application that compiles recipes from APIs and allows users to view and save recipes, create a meal plan, and grocery list for the recipes. My work within this project involved working on front-end for the meal planning and saved recipes pages.

About Me
I'm currently a software engineer at Target doing backend API development within supply chain. At Target, I have done both frontend and backend work, learning how to implement business tasks, automate and deploy workflow pipelines, managing databases, doing on-call support and so-on within the supply chain area. Before Target, I was a student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Within my undergrad I studied computer science and game design. I also worked in IT at college at both the university housing department and electrical/computer engineering department.
Outside of work, I like to tinker with computers by modifying simple games, create experiences custom suited towards my preferences, or experiment with other technology. I've learned that technology is always advancing and changing, so it's important to me to always keep up to date and informed.
Here's a timeline of my experience and history so far throughout my career:
2018
Began college at the University of Wisconsin - Madison for computer sciences
2019
Obtained a job at University Housing for IT help desk support.
2020
Switched departments to be a computer support assistant for the Electrical & Computer Engineering department at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
2021
Graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in December 2021 with a B.S. in Computer Sciences and a certificate in Game Design.
2022
Started working at Target as a software engineer in their Technology Leadership Program. Worked with both frontend and backend stacks.
2023
Completed the Technology Leadership Program at Target, promoted to L4 Software Engineer.
Beyond technology interests, I enjoy playing instruments. I dabble with the trombone, euphonium, guitar, and piano. When I'm feeling adventerous, I'll go for a bike ride or walk around some unexplored areas around me. With my game design certificate, I am a certified gamer. I enjoy playing video games in my free time of all genres, with my favorite being rhythm games. One project that I'd like to do eventually is to make a rhythm game of my own, inspired by the ones I enjoy playing.
